Jason Roebke, Josh Berman, Ben Lamar Gay

Saturday | 24 November 2018
Constellation - 8:30pm

Josh Berman – cornet
Ben Lamar Gay – cornet
Jason Roebke – double bass

Jason Roebke debuts a new trio in a program of compositions. Roebke is a Chicago bassist and composer. In addition to being a bassist in the city’s jazz and freely improvised music scenes, he has composed music for his own Octet and small groups. His playing is intensely physical, audacious, and sparse. The Chicago Reader described his work as “a carefully orchestrated rummage through a hardware store.” His collaborators this evening are cornetists Ben Lamar Gay and Josh Berman. Gay, a composer, cornetist, vocalist, and producer, moves components of sound, color, and space through folkloric filters to produce brilliant electro-acoustic collages. Berman’s work as an improvisor, composer, and conceptualist have made him one of Chicago’s most original musical voices.
