OPTION: Jaimie Branch & Fred Lonberg-Holm Duo + Jaimie Branch, Ben Lamar Gay, Josh Berman Trio

NY-based trumpeter and composer Jaimie Branch returns home to present two sets of improvised music on the OPTION stage.

Jaimie Branch is a trumpeter working in the areas of composition and improvisation. Since graduating from the New England Conservatory of Music in 2005, she moved to Chicago becoming an active member in the Chicago creative music scene as a performer, presenter, and recording engineer. In 2012, Branch moved to Baltimore to pursue a Masters in Jazz Performance at Towson University. Recently she launched Pionic Records, an all-vinyl label which she uses as an avenue to present her music to the universe. She currently resides in Brooklyn, NY where she has been quite active in the improvisational music scene working with bassist Brandon Lopez, drummer Mike Pride and a whole host of other great musicians.

Fred Lonberg-Holm (born 1962) is an American cellist based in Chicago. He relocated from New York City to Chicago in 1995. Lonberg-Holm is most identified with playing free improvisation and free jazz. He is also a composer of concert works. As a session musician and arranger, he is credited on many rock, pop, and country records.

Ben LaMar Gay is a cornetist and composer who deals with many components of sound through various folk traditions past, present and future.

Josh Berman is a cornetist, improviser, composer, and music presenter who has been an essential contributor to Chicago’s active improvised music scene.
